I really hated MRP when I tried it, but the flag addon I liked best (ImmersionRP) is long since gone, so I guess I may have to just deal.

I really didn't like it at first either. But I /think/ it's been streamlined and updated for the better? Can always uninstall if you still hate it

FlagRSP2 was recently ( within the last year?) updated to use the same protocol as MRP. You may have noticed that the xtensionxtooltip2 channel went away - that's why! But it broke backwards compatibility, which is probably why you weren't seeing any descriptions.
I still use FlagRSP2. I like it, but I am also highly resistant to change.
