Music for OTHER people.

Postby Yva » Fri Feb 13, 2009 10:42 am

So what song/songs make you think of other Riders? We did this a long time ago on the other boards, but it's interesting to see what folks think.

*****

I'll edit as I scroll through my playlist when I get home. There's more, but I need my muzak in front of me.

Bellesta: Fleetwood Mac, Tusk It's like, old and stuff, but man. I dunno. It's all weird and tribal. Kinda like bell.
Tarquin: The Perfect Crime, The Decemberists *or* Sinnerman, Nina Simone . . .the second I could see Tarq beating the crap out of people to it.
Tirith: Red Right Hand, Nick Cave
Chryste: Chemicals Between Us, Bush
Annalea: Consider This, Anna Nalick
Ceil: Original Sinsuality, Tori Amos Again, more about sound than lyrics.
Bricu: I'm A Rover, Great Big Sea More older Bricu, like pre-Threnn, but still a song I could see him bellowing. Later? Seven Nation Army, White Stripes
Varenna: Perfect Girl, Sarah McLachlan
Beltar: Wanderlust, Mark Knopfler
Ulthanon: Gimme Shelter, Rolling Stones
Jolstraer: Crusade, Voltaire
Fells: Waiting For My Real Life To Begin, Colin Hay *or* Copperline, James Taylor
Threnn: Fragile, Sting *or* Some Unholy War, Amy Winehouse
Ilarra: Human Behavior, Bjork
Genise: Fire, Jimi Hendrix. So badass.
Aelflaed: Fields of Gold, Eva Cassidy's version
Alishe: Blackbird, Beatles Don't ask me why. I don't know, but always. EVERY time.

I know that I don't know everyone's characters as well as most, but these are the songs that came to mind for these folks. Most of the songs are matching in tone and in some words. Obviously no song will entirely fit in all lyrics. ^_^

Seylon: Aerosmith's "What kind of love are you on" or Toby Keith's "Whiskey Girl"
Skyborne: Counting Crows' "Accidentally in Love" (from 'Shrek')
Threnn: Jewel's "Hands"
Genise: Justin Timberlake's "SexyBack" (Obviously with the changed gender of the lyrics.)
Bellesta: Savage Garden's "The Animal Song" (Okay, this one is mainly 'cause my hearing sucks and though I knew, logically, it wasn't, I really thought it sounded like "I wanna live like cannibals" rather than "like animals" for the longest time! But either way...)
Jolstraer: Trans-Siberian Orchestra's "The Dark"
Yva: Within Temptation's "Ice Queen"
Varenna: Stratovarius' "Luminous"

The Cupcake Brigade (Rayala, Sadiraia, Boleyn): Leslie Carter's "Like Wow" (from 'Shrek', entirely for the tone.)

All Northern Characters: "Caledonia" by Dougie MacLean

Wildfire Riders: Halfcocked's "Bad Reputation" (from 'Shrek') & Elton John's "Saturday Night's All Right for Fighting"
"It ain't about how hard you can hit, but how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward; how much you can take and keep moving forward." ['Rocky Balboa']

They say that every spring, Stratholme had a festival - the kind to celebrate the fact that it wasn't so damn cold anymore, with flowers and dancing and drinking.

And somehow, I think, if they had fiddle contests, the finals went a bit like this:

(For more awesome, check out Luseblus, Wackidoo, and Da Trowie Burn, also by this group - The String Sisters. Most of their DVD is on youtube, and it is not available for purchase in the US.)

Skyborne: 'I'm A Tree' - Imani Coppola (The artist is definitely quirky and sort of weird, but with a generally optimistic tone to her songs, reminds me a lot of Sky)
Bricu: 'Selfish Man' - Flogging Molly
Tarquin: 'The Rascal King' - The Mighty Mighty Bosstones
Threnn and Annalea: 'The Queen of All Argyll' - Traditional (Silly Wizard version) (Something to have to do with the sound and storytelling of this makes me think of both Al'cair sisters)

I think Flogging Molly's "Tomorrow Comes A Day Too Soon" is a very Jolstraer kind of song. Tell me if you agree.
Now hang me by this golden noose
'Cause I never been nothin' but your golden goose
Silver tongue don't fail me now
And I'll make my way back to you somehow

So I was telling Tarq this earlier, but uhhh, Tom Waits "Little Drop of Poison" is eerily appropriate for him.

Lols.

I like my town with a little drop of poison
Nobody knows they're lining up to go insane
I'm all alone, I smoke my friends down to the filter
But I feel much cleaner after it rains

She left in the fall, that's her picture on the wall
She always had that little drop of poison
She left in the fall, that's her picture on the wall
She always had that little drop of poison

Did the devil make the world while god was sleeping
Someone said you'll never get a wish from a bone
Another wrong good-bye and a hundred sailors
That deep blue sky is my home

She left in the fall, that's her picture on the wall
She always had that little drop of poison
She left in the fall, that's her picture on the wall
She always had that little drop of poison

A rat always knows when he's in with weasels
Here you lose a little every day
I remember when a million was a million
They all have ways to make you pay
They all have ways to make you pay

*****

Something for Ilarra, which I call ILA HEAD MUZAK.

The creepy kids talking in the background kinda make it for me.

(spoken)
Ladies and gentleman!
Boys and ghouls!
Step right up!
Behind this curtain lies a ghastly concoction of delight! Horror! Fantasy and terror!
Your every wish is our command!
Your every whimsical desire brought to life.
But I'm warning you...There's always a price!
Welcome to the greatest show UNEARTHED!

(sung)
The dark carnival is in town
You better be ready
Just follow the parade
Of dancing skeletons
Full of ghoulish delights
Around every corner
Don't tell your parents you're here
They will soon be mourners

Welcome to the lower berth
The greatest show unearthed
We appear without a sound
The darkest show around
We will leave you in a daze
Madness, murder, dismay
We will disappear at night
With blood on the concrete

I will be your ticket taker
Come inside it's a dream
Enter the fun house of mirrors
No one can hear you scream
We can supply anything
That your heart desires
But the consequences
Will surely be dire

Welcome to the lower berth
The greatest show unearthed
We appear without a sound
The darkest show around
We will leave you in a daze
Madness, murder, dismay
We will disappear at night
With blood on the concrete

Come inside
For the ride
Your deepest darkest fears

The best night
Of your life
You're never leaving here

The unknown
The unseen
Is what you're gonna find

Witness this
Witness that
Until you lose your mind

Welcome to the lower berth
The greatest show unearthed
We appear without a sound
The darkest show around
We will leave you in a daze
Madness, murder, dismay
We will disappear at night
With blood on the concrete
