Dragons Rock!

Postby Shaila » Tue Apr 07, 2009 12:10 pm

Shaila pointed down to the ruined valley below, a smile on her face despite the air being filled with soot and smoke.

"Ever seen those before, boy?" She looked over at Sharyz, the large green proto-drake, his tongue lolling out of the side of his mouth, dripping liquid magma saliva onto the ground, charring the rock.

The woman was pointing at a gathering of black drakes. The juvenile dragons were belching even more fire into the air, grappling with each other in a contest of strength. They continued to dominate the area despite the defeat of Nefarian, the ogres and orcs being too disorganized to be a dominant force until a new leader stepped up, if that ever happened, and the elementals being much the same without Ragnaros. Many of them had fled back to the Elemental Plane, leaving the Dark Irons themselves as the biggest threat to the dragons. And indeed they seemed the most organized, slowly recuperating from their enslavement to the elemental lord of fire.

"Yep, black dragons!" Shaila continued. "They're bad guys. Did you know they've been mean to the green dragons, your cousins? It's true!"

Sharyz looked at her and tilted his large head, his small eyes blinking. He looked back at the black dragons and let out a short, strange sort of bark.

Shaila grinned. "They're tasty. Wanna try some?"

She ran forward and dived off the cliff, Sharyz plummeting after her. He grabbed her in one of his clawed feet and continued the descent at a more controlled pace, belching his own fire as the two of them went on the offensive.

Theostrasza peered at the two human children, a curious look on her face. A curious look was always on the disguised red's face when she babysat the Viridiant children. After gaining the trust of the Wyrmrest Accord and being officially partnered with the red drake, Shaila had asked Theo if, of all things, she would mind helping to babysit the human's children. She would often have help from the young Stormrunner, but sometimes she may have to babysit them alone.

Theo had been skeptical at first, but the task soon became one of her greatest joys. To Jaina she was Aunt Theo, the kind brown haired human who helped their mom take care of them. The girl had not yet made the connection between Aunt Theo and Theostrasza the red drake, but the perceptive Tobias had made the connection soon after meeting both of her forms. Theo wondered at the wisdom of being so free with her identity with the children, but Shaila apparently trusted Tobias to be discreet and Jaina to not know what the hell was going on anyway. Granted, the girl was still very young, but...something about her seemed more reflex and instinct than wisdom and knowledge, and the potential didn't seem to be increasing as she aged. She was already beating up other kids.

To spend so much time among human children was a rare thing even for red dragons. Certainly they sometimes took the form of small animals or even, rarely, other children to interact with them, but the flights in general were still rather new to the concept of socializing with the younger races, this latest surge being spurred more by necessity than desire. But many of them, the reds especially, were not coming to regret the decision, despite the worrisome decision to renew the conflicts between the Alliance and the Horde.

So it was a treat for Theo to see how these children lived in such an up close and honest way. It also touched her that Shaila did not see her merely as a tool for bringing more death to the world. It wasn't to say that the things Shaila did were not for the right reasons, or that she killed needlessly, but many saw dragons as little more than sentient siege weapons. To give a red the task of watching two new lives was perhaps one of the most appropriate requests Theo had ever seen a mortal make of her kind.

There was only one part of it Theo did not enjoy at all.

Wondering each time if their mother would come home alive.

Shaila felt alive!

The black drakes swarmed around them, the Steppes natives unsure what to make of the green proto-drake who was chasing them around with a small (and tasty looking) human in his claws.

Shai tapped on his ankle as they flew over one of the drakes, and Sharyz dropped her. She whipped out her daggers as she fell, preparing to land on the drake's back, but was quickly snapped up in the jaws of another one of the drakes, eager to snatch an easy meal. Or not so easy, as he felt an incredible pain on his tongue. He roared, twisting in the air.

She knew what was coming next, and leaped toward the front of his mouth as a stream of fire came up, wrapping her cloak around herself as she shot out out his mouth, discarding the fiery cloak when she landed on the ground with a thud, rolling a few feet before coming to a stop. She swiftly got to her feet and ran as fast as she could out of the way as yet another drake dived down to try to crush her, the rogue then skidding to a stop and leaping back to grab his tail as he lifted off again, dangling from it in the air.

Sharyz, meanwhile, was biting into the neck of another of the drakes, the black drake shrieking as he continued to lose energy in the struggle, the bulky proto-drake's skin tough to damage effectively, his large jaw difficult to wrench free from. They crashed to the ground, the black drake breaking a few bones as well as his neck as he landed under the weight of Sharyz.

He looked up to find Shai, dropping from the black drake's tail just as another clamped down onto it. Her parachute opened as she fell towards the ground, slowing her fall considerably but opening her up as an easy target. The two other drakes now fighting, the last of the group now flew towards her. The same one from before, he knew better than to try to eat her this time. No, this time he'd fry the woman from afar, and watch her plummet to the ground like a molten rock from one of the many volcanoes in the area.

His plan was interrupted by Sharyz's own stream of fire. While the flames didn't scorch the black dragon, the force of the stream certainly knocked him off course, causing him to spiral and struggle to gain control once more, more than enough time for Sharyz to snatch Shaila out of the air and safely into his claws once more. She grinned as he caught her, and looked to see that same hungry black drake chasing them once more. He opened his mouth once more, preparing another stream of fire.

She held up one glove, a small rocket attached to the top of it.

"Surprise!"

It fired, jetting straight to the surprised dragon just as his own fire began to exit his mouth, hitting the rocket and blowing up his head in a shower of fire and gore. The final two drakes paused in their fighting to watch this, and roared in their fury. Yet although black dragons typically lacked valor, they were certainly aware of the better parts of it, and fled, flying for the distant Blackrock Mountain. A human alone they could handle. A human with this strange new dragon-thing was apparently more than they could deal with.

Sharyz landed, releasing Shaila onto the ground.

"That was fantastic, Sharyz!" She walked over to his head and hugged it, then looked around. "Two drakes! That'll be enough meat for several months. Let's clean 'em up and take it all back home, boy. Quick as we can too, I'm sure those drakes will be back with more."

She walked towards the bodies and got to work. The maiden would feast on dragon tonight.
