Reflection

Postby Illithias » Wed Mar 31, 2010 8:17 pm

The cool pre-morning breeze blew in from the Veiled Sea, whipping her hair about her face. She sat facing the sea, watching the face of Elune sink slowly beyond the horizon in the west; reflected light painting a silver path almost right back to the island. The murmuring of the stronghold below her joined the susurrus of the wind and trees, interspersed with the rhythmic beat of the surf and occasional call from one of the nearby seabirds.

She was sitting cross-legged on the roof of the stronghold's inn, dressed in her underclothing. Simple trousers and shirt, dark and grime-stained from being worn under armour. She had climbed up to the roof from the room she was in, finding a perch and watching the larger moon set. Cradled in her lap lay a bottle of Booty Bay origin - having flicked the cap off with her thumb earlier, she periodically lifted it up and took sharp swigs from it. Occasionally she would wipe her mouth on the back of her hand.

It was quiet on Sardor isle; the stronghold maintained itself at a constant low buzz of efficient activity, the animals of the wilds were either still asleep or hiding. Morning proper was still time off yet, despite Elune's descent, the sky was alive with it's bright swathe of pinpoint stars and nebulous ribbons of light. As the moon sank, the silvery reflection on the waves retreated back to the horizon to meet it. Another sea bird called, a harsh squawk as it wheeled above the waters. She took another mouthful of the rum. She swallowed and shivered a touch; wishing she had more of it.
