An early Lore song:

PINS AND NEEDLES - The Birthday Massacre
Once a night my bedroom light
Bleeds out from inside my window
Eyes white, I keep out of sight
This city's just not pretty like it used to be

It's always a nightmare, it's never a dream
The promise we made to kill the days between
They live in the heartbeat and sleep til the light is gone

It's been so long
Feels like pins and needles in my heart
So long
I can feel it tearing me apart

To the bed the left unsaid
Crawl in from outside my window
Hands red and cold as the dead
A pity they're not pretty like they used to be

It's always a nightmare, it's never a dream

The promise we made to kill the days between
They live in the heartbeat and sleep til the light is gone

It's been so long
Feels like pins and needles in my heart
So long
I can feel it tearing me apart

It's never a whisper, it's always a scream
The promise we made to kill the time between
They live in the heartbeat and sleep til the light is gone

It's been so long
Feels like pins and needles in my heart
So long
I can feel it tearing me apart
"A little extra DPS never killed anyon... Oh wait."
"Still alive, I see. Clearly you're not trying hard enough."

Think I finally found a song that gets the world-weary quotient for Beltar correct, as much for overall sound as lyrics. Reckless Kelly, "Wicked Twisted Road":

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wpUXrDrUfDM

My first love was a wicked twisted road
I hit the million mile mark at seventeen years old
I never saw the rainbow much less a pot of gold
Yeah my first love was a wicked twisted road

My first love was a castle in the sky
I never thought I'd make it 'till I had the guts to try
And I sat up in my tower while the whole world passed me by
Yeah my first love was a castle in the sky

My first love was a fearless drive in rain
Scared to death I thought I'd never see her face again
They say God was crying so I guess He felt my pain
Yeah my first love was a fearless drive in rain

My first love was a wild sinful night
I ran out with the big dogs guess I had more bark then bite
Even thought I won the battle in the end I lost the fight
Yeah my first love was a wild sinful night

My first love was an angry painful song
I wanted one so bad I went and did everything wrong
A lesson in reality would come before too long
Yeah my first love was an angry painful song

My first love was a wicked twisted road
I hit the million mile mark at seventeen years old
I never saw the rainbow much less a pot of gold
Yeah my first love was a wicked twisted road
My first love was a wicked twisted road

I think this song works for Bricu probably Threnn (and I'd venture to guess 90% of the riders).
The Decemberists: This Is Why We Fight:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xNEz3_yzIUY

Lyrics

Come the War
Come the avarice
Come the war
Come hell

Come attrition
Come the reek of bones
come attrition
come hell

And this is why
Why we fight
why we like awake
this is why
this is why we fight
and when we die
we will die
with our arms unbound
this is why we fight
come hell

Bride of quiet
Bride of all unquiet things
Bride of quiet
Bride of hell

Come the archers
Come the infantry
Come the Archers
Of hell

And this is why
Why we fight
why we like awake
this is why
this is why we fight
and when we die
we will die
with our arms unbound
this is why we fight
come hell

Some come to me
come to me now
lay your arms around me
This is why
this is why we fight
come hell

--I should also point out that the video ends quickly and Colin Meloy plays 3 types of guitar on this track and the harmonica.
I drink to keep you pretty

I might have posted this elsewhere, but I don't see it anywhere. Look, an Anna-song!

"Le Ballet D'or," Counting Crows:

Wasted time running scared
When all a love needs is to be believed in
All those Springs come and gone
Past like trains and boxcars leaving
But I would be lying
If I didn't tell you the truth
They will leave you
They will leave you

So come now
Let's go dance to siren's song
Come now
Leave your damage behind and gone

Some are lost to you

Wasted time running scared
All that I need is to believe in something like a Summer
And I know you need somebody just like I do
And all these foxes go down in their barrows to hide
They will leave you
They will leave you behind

So come now
Let's go dance to the siren's song
Come now
Leave your damage behind and gone
Just come now
Let's go to the dance floor
Come now
Lose your mind at Le Ballet d'Or

Some are lost
Some are leaving
Some are lost
Some are leaving
But I'm not going at all
I'm not going anywhere at all
Some are lost to you

We've wasted time running scared
Now Autumn's fire is ashes on the breeze
And it spins away like dust on pearls
As winter comes to usher in the evening
But all of these drummers go stand
on their hillsides alone
They will leave you
They will leave you alone

So come now
Let's go dance to siren's song
Come now
Leave your damage behind and gone
So come now
Let's go down to the dance floor
Come now
Lose your mind at Le Ballet d'Or
Just come now
Let's get out while the getting's good
Come now
There's no one left in the neighborhood

I feel like somewhere in the annals of history, I posted in this thread before. But just in case!

I've found I get the best bang for my buck with atmospheric or ambient music. Scores designed to create an emotional response complementing the scene, or world music that hits the right setting thematic. I do less well with music if it's got English lyrics that are easily understandable, as my brain tends to try and complete the lines instead of focusing on the writing. Here are some of my writing faves:

Dead Can Dance
Enigma
Immediate Music (a trailer score factory)
ES Posthumous
Adiemus

Scores:
Batman (Elfman or Zimmer)
Pirates of the Carribean
Van Helsing
Aeon Flux
Kung Fu Hustle
God of War
Just about anything from Square.
And yes, even the Russell Brower WoW collections. :D

I just discovered the awesomeness that is William Elliott Whitmore. "Hell Or High Water" makes a great general WFR song, and "Old Devils" is pretty much just straight up about Tarquin & Galvan. Lyrics for both are here.
Now hang me by this golden noose
'Cause I never been nothin' but your golden goose
Silver tongue don't fail me now
And I'll make my way back to you somehow

I've found 2 songs for Rheugan.

The first is more of a "bad-day" song-
Shallow Life by Lacuna Coil

I never thought I'd be a soldier
I take my place inside the battle
I've come to realize the journey's over
Realize that life is sober

Everyday I'm like a soldier
Waking up within the battle
And through the haze I live a dream that's better
Than what I feel inside, diggin' in me

Suffering darkness in my eyes against the light of Rome
I see the reflection of the ghost that I've become
Waiting behind the windows, I resign to be alone
I want to feel alone and lost in this solitude

Shallow life
I'll stay close to the ground
Shallow life
The walls keep falling down
I close my eyes
I'll find my way around
In the shallow life

(Welcome to the bottom line)
Suffer and darkness in my eyes against the night of Rome
I get confused and all I hear is just myself
I will resign and search for peace of mind, I'm on my own
I need to be alone and lost in this solitude

Shallow life
I'll stay close to the ground
Shallow life
The walls keep falling down
I close my eyes
I'll find my way around
In the shallow life

The walls keep falling
Shallow life
I'll stay close to the ground
Shallow life
The walls keep falling down
I close my eyes
I'll find my way around
In the shallow life
Shallow life

(Welcome to the bottom line)

The second is Dante's Prayer, by Loreena McKennitt

When the dark wood fell before me
And all the paths were overgrown
When the priests of pride say there is no other way
I tilled the sorrows of stone

I did not believe because I could not see
Though you came to me in the night
When the dawn seemed forever lost
You showed me your love in the light of the stars

Chorus:
Cast your eyes on the ocean
Cast your soul to the sea
When the dark night seems endless
Please remember me

Then the mountain rose before me
By the deep well of desire
From the fountain of forgiveness
Beyond the ice and the fire

Chorus

Though we share this humble path, alone
How fragile is the heart
Oh give these clay feet wings to fly
To touch the face of the stars

Breathe life into this feeble heart
Lift this mortal veil of fear
Take these crumbled hopes, etched with tears
We'll rise above these earthly cares

Chorus

Please remember me
Please remember me...
Will you carry me down the aisle that final day
With your tears and cold hands shaking from the weight
When you lower me down beneath that sky of gray
Let the rain fall down and wash away your pain

The following is essentially what kind of personality Shaila's daughter will have when she is older.

Natalie's Rap

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VVPCz0W7Rm0 *NOT WORK SAFE*

We're sitting here today with film star Natalie Portman
Hello, so Natalie, what's the day
In life of Natalie Portman like?
Do you really wanna know? Please, tell us

I don't sleep motherfucker off that yak and Durban
Doin' one twenty, gettin' head while I'm swervin'
Damn Natalie, you a crazy chick

Yo, shut the fuck up and suck my dick
I bust in dudes mouth like gushers motherfucker
Roll up on NBC and smack the shit outta Jeff Zucker

What you want, Natalie? To drink and fight
What you need, Natalie? To fuck all night

Don't test when I'm crazy on that airplane glue
Put my foot down your throat till you shit in my shoe
Leave you screaming, pay for my dry cleaning
Fuck your man, it's my name that he's screamin'

I'm sorry Natalie, but are we to believe you
Condone driving while intoxicated?
I never said I was a role model
What about the kids that look up to you?
Do you have a message for them?

All the kids lookin' up to me can suck my dick
It's Portman motherfucker, drink till I'm sick
Slit your throat and poor nitrous down the hole
Watch you laugh and cry while I laugh you die

And all the dudes you know I'm talkin' to you
We love you Natalie, I wanna fuck you too
P is for Portman, P is for pussy
I'll kill your fuckin' dog for fun, so don't push me

Well, Natalie I'm surprised
All this from a Harvard graduate
Well, there's a lot you may not know about me
Really? Such as?

When I was in Harvard I smoked weed every day
I cheated every test and snorted all the yay
I gotta a def posse and you gotta bunch of dudes
I sit right down on your face and take a shit

Natalie, you are a bad ass bitch, hell yeah
And I always pay for your dry cleanin'
When my shit gets in your shoe, what?
And as for the drug use, well I can vouch for that
My dick is scared of you, girl

Okie-dokie, one final question
If you can steal a smooch from
Any guy in Hollywood, who would it?
No more questions, what

After reading Shad & Zve's excellent posts in First, Finest & Last, I feel this is extremely relevant.
Now hang me by this golden noose

Silver tongue don't fail me now
And I'll make my way back to you somehow
