*Pulling a Lelee is to tell everybody on the FM Forums that the reason you've been away is because you were doing time. For busting some fool's head with a baseball bat. Said fool had shot your buddy, but you still managed to get to them lacking firearms and proceeded to beat'em up with a bat, following an exciting Bruckheimeresque car chase. Talking about your alleged hot sister who used to play your account optional.

So apparently this post is controversial...

I've had to ban one IP address that posted a "any monkey can raid now, pve is for idiots, only arena takes skill" after every comment on that post.

and now I've got the "WoW RP is so awful and bad and WoW hates RPers and so that's why they're jerks!" guy. I'm not sure what his point is, posting about how "he just can't imagine how anyone could still play WoW and RP, and RPers should go to a better RP game like LotRO" on a blog that focuses on... wait for it... RP and WoW! Either way, it's gotten a lot of relatively controversial attention.

So thanks The comment discussion has been good, even if it did bring out some of the clowns as well. (Also makes me wonder if the person who sent the email isn't one of the clowns, but I don't have the IP anymore for them. Oh well)

Huh...guess my 4 80's and multiple raiding/RP-ing characters have been Doin' It Rong this whole time. Funny how that works.

And I might just post his comment and then your comment as a post on their own. Because it NEEDS to get addressed. There is a lot of QQ aobut how RP is so awful because blizzard this and other people that, and you've tackled it a lot more eloquently than I could.

I think Davien's already hit on all the points I wanted to, but there's probably room for a bit more discussion here; not only on the subject of character knowledge vs in-game experiences, but also in regards to Roleplayers bashing on Raiders. I've seen a fair amount of raider-hate coming from roleplayers, and mostly, it's from people who couldn't PvE their way out of wet paper bags. And don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that roleplayers can't be fantastic raid members, but they are the kinds of people that are more likely to have character-related (read: less useful) specs. Also, if given the choice, they're probably more likely to wanna go hang out and interact with their friends ICly than go raid Naxx or something, which can sometimes really interfere with another person's (even very casual) raiding schedule. But compromises can always be made.

There are two TLDR solutions, I guess: if the people giving her shit are her friends and she thinks they're just jealous because they can't spend as much time with her ICly as they'd like, then open some honest channels of communication and deal with that issue; but if she thinks she's catching flak from people who can't understand that her 15$ a month is hers to do with as she pleases, and look down on her choice to raid when she could be RP'ing, then I'm all for the "fuck 'em, they're morons" approach. You're better off without friends like that, imo.

Character Knowledge vs In-Game Experience is always a toughy; I would probably never say that Matsu'jin or any other character was directly responsible for the deaths of any major storyline characters. I have, in the past, said that he rallied his allies together to rise up and defeat the Blood Lord Hakkar, but have always been careful in saying that it was only the false Loa's physical form that was bested - his wicked spirit still swirls about Zul'Gurub, taking form whenever possible. So it's just a temporary victory in that case.

I think it's certainly possible to involve your character in world-changing events without actually saying outright that they were responsible for them, though. I never RP'd that Matsu'jin had killed Illidan Stormrage, for instance, only that he had been working very closely with the Aldor in their efforts to retake Karabor. I wouldn't look down my nose at someone who said they'd put the blade in his back, though. It's their 15$ a month, like I said, and they're free to do with it what they want. I'm not the storyline police, but I do reserve the right to not interact with someone ICly if I'm not interested in their RP. Everyone has that right.
