Teaching safe sex in Georgia was only just approved last week (yeah this is an article from 2007, couldn't find an article about the approval). Up until now, public schools taught abstinence only. The bill passed last week approved allocation of funds for two safe sex education programs, but parents are still allowed to opt their children out of safe sex and go for the "abstinence only" courses.

So much I could say on this subject. It's just... so sad.

It probably explains why Western Georgia Uni has the highest college STD rate in the country.

*ponder* You know - you saying that makes me wonder if that's something they tell all universities? I know the same was said about the university where I live.. sneaky!

The most recent info I can find (2007), in the State of Texas

And, for what its worth, they certainly didn't tell us at Baylor (a "conservative Baptist" private university) that we had a high STD rate... but if you went into the clinic with a stomach flu, you got a pregnancy test with your anti nausea medication.

I suppose they'd tell everyone that to keep them from having too much pre-marital sex eh? Still explains a lot of things about the school I go to... (Not western georgia)

I don't think there exist any true data about campus rates of STDs. Privacy issues prevent conclusive lists. No matter how many are reported at any given location, you know that there are more.
