I paint miniatures. Not very *well*, but I do enjoy painting them. I found one that reminded me of Bricu, and one of Aelflaed too. I'm working on Bricu now. Here's what I started with:

I'll try and get a pic up of the finished product soonish.

I'll find a camera and post some of the minis I used for my D&D campaign. I've got a dual foot/horseback Rider of Rohan that I used for an alt-U Jakob Balthasar that I'm pretty proud of, and Zalbuu painted a killer Bretonnian knight for Loche's character as a wedding present.

There's this neat hobby shop up the street, absolutely ENORMOUS and stocked with all kinds of ancient minis you can get on the cheap. Ral Partha and that sort of thing. I oughta give it a swing-through and see if anything reminds me of a guildie.

Ah, miniatures. I really ought to paint those more often.

I've still got an entire legion's worth of Warhammer 40k Chaos Space Marines. Trouble is I can't stop messing with them. There's just so, so many ways to make them look ugly and hideous and frightening and grimdark and awesome. Like this one guy I've got who's got a demon face, a sword for a hand, an ankylosaurus-mace tail, and giant spider legs coming out of his back.

Still working on Bricu. Not very happy with how the color scheme came out, so I'm going to go back through trying to get as much of the paint stripped and re-primer for another go. Meanwhile, I found some other folks:

An Aelflaed!

And a possible Tarquin, in my crude sense of the imaginative:

Artist's original sketch:

And I just ordered a Jolly!

Will try to get finished product pictures up once they're finished and the camera cooperates! \o/

Where are you getting all these? (and the artwork, too)

I am a Reaper Minis fan >.> I can name the original figures if you want to look them up at their site.

Bricu = Hadrian, Mercenary Sergeant
Aelflaed = Cyanea the Just
Tarquin = Lord Jester, Mercenary
Jolly = Herne Lancer, Crusaders Sergeant

Edit for Tarquin: Interestingly enough, there is a Balthazar in their figure line.

What do you use these for? Because they are AWESOME.

And not that I have any free time, but do you just order these online? I do a lot of detail work painting on those illuminations and it sounds kinda like fun >.>

I, umm, just pain 'em for fun, hehe. I know that Reaper has some sort of game that goes with their Warlords series, though I've never bothered to look much into it really. I just like painting paladins and lookin' at 'em.

You can order 'em online, though it's a little cheaper and a quicker fix if you can find a local game store that carries them. As far as paints, I just use the $.98 Apple Barrel stuff from Wal Mart. I'd imagine any shop that has D&D stuff (and has room there to host games) would probably carry miniatures. I'm sure there's a ton of other designers out there besides Reaper -Ral Partha comes to mind, and I know that Dark Sword Miniatures gets into doing miniatures of some known fantasy artist (Larry Elmore jumps out at me).

Dunno how big your illuminations are when you paint 'em, but just thought I'd note that these things are pretty small - Bricu here's no bigger than the first joint on my thumb >.>
