Help me help Bricu

Hey cats and kittens,

At least two or three times a week, Marty gets a "cannot find server" message when he's trying to connect here. It seems to right itself after an hour or so, but it happens often enough that it's wicked frustrating. As far as I know, he's the only one having this issue. Unfortunately, trying to pin down an explanation has yielded us a big fat nothing -- it happens at home and at work, and whether he's on the (Windows) laptop, the (mac) desktop or the Jesusphone. It happens with different browsers, and from different IPs and ISPs.

So, my question to you guys is, is anyone else experiencing these regular outages? If you are, I need you to do something for me next time it happens:

Open up a DOS prompt / Terminal at the time when you can't connect to the server and type in the following commands:

for MacOS: traceroute wildfireriders.com
for Windows: tracert wildfireriders.com

If you can cut and paste your results and email/pm them to me, that would be mightily appreciated. That way I can forward them to our hosting company here, where the tech support is super fucking awesome, and they'll take a look.

Is he using the same network provider on all of the above devices?

There's a fix for this on the tech forums. I walked Aely threw it yesterday. He needs to renew his ip.

I think Yva is right.

Try going to Run: then type in "CMD", open it.

type:

ipconfig /release (then Enter)
ipconfig /renew (then Enter)

And it should refresh your ip addy and hopefully fix the problem.

I for one, never have this problem........

Get dial up like me, you losers!

It's not a problem connecting to WoW or the WoW forums; it's a problem connecting to these forums, which means renewing his IP is a temporary fix at best. It happens from different IP addresses -- his home one, his work one, the iPhone network, whatever random wireless he's pirating, and from different ISPs as well. Worth a try, for the next time it happens, but I'm hoping I can get some information to the tech support people at ICDsoft that can get to the root of the problem so he won't have to release and renew his IP address multiple times a week.

Yeah, if you can get to server277.com, that's us.

Though those timeouts in the middle might be helpful. Hrm. (Edit, Greg says they're not. Bleh.)

Also, there's your problem, Illi. The kayak has a leak.

Here's what happens:

I'm sitting at my desk and I click on my bookmarklet. I get the error "server cannot be found." I open ie7, Chrome 2 and firefox 3. Same error. I use the JesusPhone. Same message. When i'm At home, and I get the same error messages, i get it regardless of machine or browser.

Last night, even flushing the DNS cash did not work. Funny thing is: Wildfireriders.com works. Forums.wildfireriders.com times out.
