Did you not play Portal?

Post by Israia »

You should fix that. Mac or PC. Free. Legal. Until May 24th.

Edit: Maybe I should explain why, better.

Portal is a first person puzzle game with fantastic dark humor, told in VALVe's usual(for them) ways. It spawned at least 3 memes(The Cake is a Lie, This was a Triumph, the Companion Cube), extended the Half-Life universe, had some of the best pacing and puzzle designs out there, and while it isn't too difficult, it stumps you just enough to make the reward of beating a puzzle feel great.

On top of this, it's only 5-6 hours long, if you take your time with the experience. You'll swear you haven't had an experience like this before in your life.

This was one of the best games I played that year. You do NOT need leet FPS skills to play it.

Recently started learning to play piano, and Still Alive was one of the first songs I learned. Amazing game, and Uthas is right: you certainly don't have to be a shooter fan to have fun with it. Considering its especially short length, there's really no good reason not to sit down for a few hours and play through Portal. Orange Box would be worth its price even if it was just this game, imo.
You must beat the drum to hear its sound.

I just recently registered a Steam account specifically so I could get Portal for free. :D

Also, this is a reminder that the deal is ending very, very soon.

Portal is again free on Steam for the next few days. A Kotaku article says "up to September 20", but it doesn't clarify whether that's inclusive or exclusive. So yeah, if you haven't played it yet, you can grab it for free on Steam (and Steam itself is free, too - it just requires an e-mail address to sign up).
