Grendrak always preferred the winter months, it was a good time to relax, kick back and enjoy a period of time where you weren't working from dawn until dusk to get new plants in, weed the undesirable plants out, or harvest what was ready. Even as far south as Westfall, with it's mild winters, not much would grow without the help of a druid and he had no mind to pay someone to make more work for him. With nothing else to occupy him he had decided to enjoy a cool morning looking out towards the ocean and the far distant sails of ships heading north to Stormwind harbor, and further. Sitting on the porch of his farmhouse, sipping a cup of hot coffee when Gren spotted a horse with a rider wearing the livery of Stormwind coming down the dusty path towards his house.
The man brought his horse to a picture perfect parade rest, and with the sharp military precision of a man who fancied himself far more important than he truly was, snapped off a salute and brought out a tightly wrapped scroll.
"Knight-Champion Strongheart, You are hereby informed that your commission with the Third Legion Hospitillars has been reactivated. You are required to present yourself with full kit and in complete readiness for further orders to Colonel Struthers at the Stormwind barracks not more than 72 hours from now, at which point you will receive your marching orders." The Knight went on for a few more minutes snapping out each word with a precision you could almost feel before handing the scroll to Gren and, mounting his horse rode off at a brisk trot.
Opening the scroll Grendrak quickly read through his orders and it's attached summation
"Your exemplary service in the field...."
"Dedication to our cause..."
"Current shortages in manpower.."
"Medical to the Ebon Blade.."
Letting out a deep sigh he rolled the scroll back up and leaving his now cold cup of coffee on the porch railing he walked inside to begin assembling his long disused gear.
Grendrak presented himself at the Stormwind Barracks precisely on time to the secretary of Colonel Struthers. "Knight-Champion Strongheart reporting as ordered." And handed over his re-activation scroll. "Have a seat Sir, the Colonel is in a meeting at the moment but should be free shortly." Said the secretary.
Gren did not have to wait long until the gnomish device on her desk buzzed and she told Gren to go in. Colonel Struthers was from a large noble family whose patronage had allowed him to reach far higher in the military than mean skills would normally allow, He had been fit and trim in his younger days, but now as he was approaching middle age his lifestyle of too much drink, too much smoke, and an appetite for women were all showing on his waistline and face. The colonel had always enjoyed sending his people to fight at Arathi basin, Warsong Gulch, and Alterac Valley. His love for sending out troops to heal those fighting the Horde for scraps while ignoring the real problems that plagued the world had finally driven Grendrak to leave the Hospitillars, and to tell the colonel exactly what he thought about all the fighting with the Horde.
"Well Knight-Champion Strongheart, it seems that you have returned to us after all." Colonel Struthers put a distinct emphasis on the word Champion, making it sound like an insult. "It seems that we have a rather pressing need for warm bodies up at the front in Icecrown, and with the losses we have suffered so far I was finally able to get you re-activated. I don't know whose boots you licked to keep you out of things this far, but now you are back, and I have just the perfect assignment for you. I know how much you hate doing your duty to protect our lands from the horde, so I found something else for you to do." He contemptuously slid a packet across his desk. "Enjoy your time with the deaders, I know I will be. Dismissed."
Picking up the packet, not bothering to salute Grendrak turned and left the office, nodding to the secretary on his way out. Opening up the package he read his new orders informing him to report to a Commander at the Ebon Hold immediately for assignment as a healing liaison with the Ebon Blade.
In the Army... again.
