Southshore/Hillsbrad PVP was a huge deal up until Battlegrounds, and even afterwards it continued to be kind of a thing. That's where Nimjhal earned the name the Butcher of Hillsbrad, for singlehandedly murdering most of an Alliance PVP guild (<Silver Dragon>) and sending the rest running back to Hillsbrad.

The forefront of the Horde PVP force was <Low Red Moon>. There were other major guilds, like the Brotherhood of Dusk, Hand of the Forsaken, and Noxilite (/wave), but LRM was fucking feared. They leveled quickly, they organized, and they had a few absolutely terrifying players.

I can't remember the actual timeframe, but Ceil and Sadaye used to organize regular arena gatherings where various members of the Horde and Alliance would take turns dueling each other in the Stranglethorn Arena.

As I remember it usually went fairly well, very few interruptions.

That was actually Raels and I, and they went beautifully for quite a while. They also led to one of my favorite WoW moments of all time,

"Sorry, the Alliance team needs a minute, Tarquin is still a leper gnome."

Raels, that's right. I had a feeling I got the Forsaken female wrong.

I think LRM was fun to pvp against because as I remember they never really rubbed a victory in. I felt like I could fight them and, as mediocre a pvper as I was (and am), still come out of the fight feeling good about it whether I won or not.

I got on the bad side of Vapula and his cronies by standing with Moholith. The "A" team was queue tripping in an effort to move up the PvP ladder.

The epic 4 day Alterac Valley, where one guy stayed up almost the entire time updating the forums with a running commentary on the game.

I think maybe Feathermoon may also be home to the very first person to get another faction's mount, before we had cloth turn-ins or anything. He was a night elf and got a Human horse, and did about a million "find the crate" quests in Swamp of Sorrows. He got his steed at level 40 too. Fuck if I can remember his name, though.

I dunno if you wanna include stuff like this, but a LOOOOT of RP used to just be done on a worldwide channel, /RP. This spawned /Lore as well, when people wanted to argue about, well, the lore. There are a few FM history characters from this, like Aklyz (godmodder) and Draike (half dragon half... moonkin before there were moonkin, something?).

SCROLLHAVEN. I miss that guy so hard. Once FM was down for an extended amount of time, and we all rolled Undead characters on another server. Like, a post on the FM forums asking everyone to. Scrollhaven made Mortpierre, the most dashingly handsome and charmingly poetic deader there is. His poetry was amazingly horrible.

Before The Pig'n'Whistle there was The Westfall Irregular, which has been through several 'owners' and a couple locations - a player-run bar in an empty store in the Stormwind Park, open to everyone, though if you ask any of the 'owners' they'll tell you it was nothing but drama. I liked it, though. Unrelated to the Irregular, at one point there was also a boat party every week, either in Ratchet or Theramore (once), where someone actually set up their own radio playlist for people to listen to outside of game while there.

It was around before anyone used the Pig. It was when the Exiles used the Warrior trainer HQ and people RPed in the Park a lot, or Ironforge inns.

Something about Twill. Lots and lots of twill. Fernes and the fairly regular fights that took place at the Irregular. Folks like Laucin and Sponge, loved those oily skirt chasers, even with the drama-llama moments. Remember the hunting parties assembled at night because if you flagged up in Stormwind, generally you'd be eating dirt a moment later thanks to the horde rogues prowling about. I miss those long AV's with Mixler, because if he was there, it was gonna be fun and insane.... then again, most of the things Mixler did were insane. The Tri-City for example.
