Shows how much you know. Impalement on the spike? Didn't do nothin'. Disney villain death. Patch 6.5: ICECROWN CITADEL WAS MERELY A SETBACK.
If this means Arthas is now an undeadish blood elf with a gigantic gem sticking out of his chest...

...I WILL SO BE THERE.

Just throwing my own 2 cents here.

The only one of my toons that this would really impact is Arvoss. He isn't part of any raid right now, so I was going to RP it as him standing outside ICC with the reserves/healers/etc. and not part of the actual battle, so all I really would need to know is the date of Arthas' fall. As far as the rest of it, and for what my opinion is worth, I'd agree with what Yva said. The Wrathgate line was awesome, and I'm sure that something similar regarding Arthas would work too. Just sayin'.
Will you carry me down the aisle that final day
With your tears and cold hands shaking from the weight
When you lower me down beneath that sky of gray
Let the rain fall down and wash away your pain

I agree with the line of thinking that anyone who wants to rp their character as having been there in some capacity, whether actually having been there yet or not, should be able to do so. But I also agree it's too soon, and that we should wait and see with this patch what's going on. It's probably wishful thinking but I have a feeling they'll be doing a few small patches that'll each have a bit of lore leading up to the next expansion, so we should definitely see what these entail.

I know despite being in a raid Shai's probably doing very little actual fighting. She's probably more gathering intel and helping bring supplies to troops at various places in the Citadel. Being an engineer, she was probably helping with repairs on the gunship as well.

So, here is my suggestion.

We have a thread that is basically the same as the "Current Happenings" thread, except specifically for Icecrown. Everyone posts a single paragraph summation of the role that their character plays in the ICC events. Then in a seperate thread/threads, people fic out the stuff they want to fic out, and anyone that doesn't want to write a fic can still let people know where their character was, what role they were performing, so that we all have a solid unified base to rp off of in game. A subforum would make a lot of sense for this, I think.

Seem reasonable?

I actually rather like that idea Uthas. If nothing else, it lets us start doing the "figuring out," even without settling on a "OK NOW IT'S DEAD" date.

I must voice my approval for this idea as well. :) A series of brief write-ups by everyone will make a nice, concise read on who took part in the siege and what they did, and will make an easy reference for anyone writing a more elaborate story. Definitely looking forward to seeing what comes of this, now.

/rabblerabble.

Wrynn's buff of pity has started.

Uthas' proposal still is awesome, but I still think we need an in-game date for when we can start talking about this.

Waiting until Cataclysm seems to me a Really Bad Idea, because Cataclysm will bring new RP, and at that point Arthas' death will be long past and kind of old-business. Nobody really knows when 3.3 will land, but that might be an option if it's soon (within the next month or so.) Using TRI-25's kill date, or a group of the 10 mans' kill dates is also a pretty viable option, since at that point the most people will have seen it. (if we wait until EVERYONE IN THE GUILD HAS SEEN IT... we'll never get an in-game date. 'cause Fells is awesome!) Or we can roll the dice and just pick a date. April Fools maybe? (That might make for some funny conversations. "Arthas is dead!" "Yeah right, and there was salt in my sugar bowl this morning. Pull the other one.")

This is Big Shit, and it will have a lot of implications. The longer we wait, the more likely people will be "over that" and wanting to RP about whatever new thing is happening in game.

In essence, these kinds of writing projects have both an "in game" and an "in fic" sides to things (thanks for that idea Yva, I'mma steal it) - and we need to balance that so as not to have issues later on.

The "in game" and "in fic" sides are DIFFERENT.

Obviously not all of the writing has to be done by, or started on, whatever in-game date we choose. In fact, it probably shouldn't, because at least SOME (if not most) of the writing will happen after That Battle, and we'll want to deal with that together, and not all separate-like. This is where a Wrathgate-style epic is best suited, especially if people are willing to take on the italics-poster-roles. But to avoid the delays in-game, and lack of communication, which causes people to assume that nothing is happening, or to just go ahead with it since /right now/ is when the ideas are most in everyone's mind, I still want to push for a concrete death date.

Concrete Death Date sounds like a really terrible band.

I agree with 3.3. Primarily because of certain things revealed in the Spoilers forum, it sounds like this is a time where some of our armies are focused on things other than Northrend which to me says the main storyline is moving on.

At the latest I'd say whatever patch has the next Wyrmrest Temple raid, as it sounds like that will be moving the storyline more towards Cataclysm.
